Now in its eighth year, this prestigious competition run by one of the industry’s most popular top trade publications honors excellence in new product development in the electrical business and recognizes the talent and commitment of the people involved with every aspect of development from concept through sales. Category winners were selected by a panel of judges that included electricians, engineers and facility managers.
Scalability was cited by judges as a key benefit for the Liebert NX with Softscale, which was named the winner of the Power Sources category. The Liebert NX with Softscale is designed for small and medium size data centers facing unpredictable changes in their IT systems. The system can be sized to a data center’s existing requirements and then easily scaled with a simple software key as power demand grows. Modules adapt from 40 kVA to 60 kVA to 80 kVA or from 80 kVA to 100 kVA to 120 kVA. This flexibility allows data center managers to scale power capacity without having to buy new modules, reducing the unit’s footprint on the data center floor as well as the amount of hardware data center mangers must manage. The Liebert NX also offers the ability to parallel unlike power capacities. For example, a customer can allow an 80 kVA system to be paired with a 40kVA system. Paralleling can be done for redundancy or capacity.
Judges cited the integrated cooling capabilities of the 19-inch Liebert XDK-W when recognizing it as the winner in the Racks and Enclosures category. The Liebert XDK-W is designed to provide secure and reliable cooling for up to 25 kW of high-density electronics. It is a closed-architecture solution utilizing air circulation internal to the enclosure that is completely sealed from room air and environmental conditions. Server heat load is absorbed by the rack’s integrated cold water system through a high efficiency air-to-water heat exchanger in the bottom of the rack. The Liebert XDK-W best fits applications in small to mid-size data centers and enables IT professionals to deploy blade servers and other high density heat load computing equipment without creating hot spots in their data centers.
The Liebert NX with Softscale and the Liebert XDK-W advance to compete with 22 other category finalists for the 2008 EC&M Product of the Year Platinum, Gold and Silver awards, which will be selected by the expert panel and the voting of EC&M subscribers at the publication’s Web site. Winners of the Platinum, Gold and Silver awards will be announced in the June 2008 issue of EC&M magazine.
